With a 5 week old baby you shouldn't need to give water as well as milk. Did you express from both breasts? Expressing takes time to get enough milk: maybe an hour a breast, so it's not an easy option. It also depends on how good your milk supply is. How often do you breastfeed at the moment?

I can't think of a reason why you would need to give a 5 weks ol baby water, especially if you have left him some milk. My nurse said that before six months old babies should only have mum's milk. On really hot days you just give them extra breastfeeds.
I guess if you were formula feeding it might be a different story.
But in the end if you gave him a little bit of water just this once and didn't make a habit of it i'm sure it wouldn't really hurt him.

yes,its okay to give cool boiled water,as long as its intended as a drink and not to replace a feed. Only keep the water for 24 hours in the fridge though.

If you bottle feed, then you definitely should give your baby water (boiled, then allowed to cool in the bottle), as they can be prone to dehydration.
This is less of a problem with breast feeding, but can still happen.
If your baby has had their milk and is still crying, try the water. It helped with both of my kids, and with my new grandson.
NOTE: This doesn't apply to premature babies, whose requirements (including feed) are very different.

perchance it fairly is gasoline and not constipation, babies digest very immediately and pooing as quickly as an afternoon is high-quality. try Mylacon (i think of thats the spelling) besides. 0.5 on the dropper will help and is risk-free to apply with each and every feeding. At 5 weeks, not something is somewhat risk-free to apply for constipation. you are able to consistently try a baby FLEET suppository, slit long techniques... yet provided that it fairly is been some days you do not want infant to alter into depedant on that. mom of three Youngest is two months previous.

Yes babies can have 3 fluid ounces of cooled boiled water a day. This helps if they are a little constipated and sometimes babies are just thirsty and need a drink of water especially if they get hot. When they are around 4 months they can have flavoured water which you can get from Boots. It doesn't contain anything nasty and my little one loved it as it was something different

In babies who are younger than six months old, boil the water first and allow it to cool before offering it to your baby.
That way the water is sterlised and safe for the baby to drink.
I gave my baby some cool boiled water.... milk is more like food than a drink. Water is good to have as well as milk.
What I usually do is boil (once) some fresh water then put it in a bottle (cover up to stop things falling in) or jug then allow a few hours to cool till its room temperature before I give it to the baby.
Check out some links in my source for comfort...

Protocol for infants changes about every 5-ten years. I have no qualms about giving a young baby boiled water after it's been cooled. Afterall, concentrated baby formula is most often reconstituted with water that's been boiled and cooled.
I breastfed with my first and was told by the doc to give her a few ounces of water a day. my grandmother told me not to so I didn't. My kid still won't drink water till this day. A few years later my friend had a baby, she was told not to give him water since she breastfed---go figure.
I didn't nurse my second baby. He was on formula. The doc told me to give him a little water since he was on formula. A few years later, I had my third baby. The same doc told me that I didn't have to give her water since she got all her water from her formula. Needless to say, I didn't give her water. She's ten and still won't drink water.
Another friend of mine had a baby few years ago. She was told to give the baby water. She followed the advice. He's the only kid I know, who drinks water willingly.
Not only do I think it's ok, but I think that the earlier you start offering water the more likely they are to drink water, when they get older. But, don't be surprised if he acts like it's the most horrible thing in the world. None of my kids liked it when they were babies.

Babies DO NOT need water, or juice, or tea, or anything EXCEPT breastmilk or formula. It's an old wives' tale that they need the extra fluids. All you're doing is filling them up and making them refuse their feedings - which is where ALL their fluid and nutritional needs come from!

Ok, this is not a good idea. If you don't have enough pumped milk, then supplement him with formula tonight. You can't "feed" a baby water. Get some formula just in case.
