Low income families often have more than two children. Their income is spent on the basic necessities. How will their children enjoy the benefits that the high income families give their children e.g. piano/art lessons, tennis/golf lessons, attend prestigious schools etc.

Let's take the example of a man who earns $1800 per month. His wife doesn't work as she has to stay at home to look after the 3 kids. They have enough to pay for utilities, food, clothes, books and school fees. He wants to take a night-time course that will help him improve his situation in life. He also wants his kids to play sports so that they will be able to channel their energy into something useful. Unfortunately, he has no money to pay for his course and he can't get his kids to play sports since he can't afford the money to buy the equipment/uniforms etc.

Get real. Why are low income families low income? They tend (sweeping generalisation I know) not to be interested in the things you list. It has to start with education.

The trouble is, low income parents tend (another generalisation) not to be too interested in education because "it never did them any good".

Unfortunately they won't be able to afford those things. The basic necessities are all any of us really need to survive. How would you feel if your tax dollars were spent to pay for piano, tennis, golf, or art lessons for underprivileged kids. We should worry about feeding and clothing them and giving them shelter. Most high income families earned the right to be where they are and deserve to spend their money any way they wish. Every person in this country has the opportunity to have all this as well. That is why so many want to come to our country. It takes a lot of hard work but it is achievable.

Why does everyone assume that we would all like to give our children piano and golf lessons?
We had three children through choice. We provided them all with the basic necessities of life, and more when we could afford it. Welfare benefits were not an option open to us.
ALL of my children work, they all have children of their own that they keep without the help of any welfare benefits. They can all manage a budget, and none live beyond their means. If you can't pay for it, you can't have it. The only thing we had a loan for was the mortgage.
We always taught our children to pay for the things they wanted when they bought them, and not with a credit card.
People on higher incomes would not know how to do any of that, as far as I can make out they all live way beyond their means, using credit cards to pay off bills.
Money does not make you happy. It just buys more extras.

I am a single parent and don't believe children of low income families can truly enjoy the benefits of high income families. However,I look after my son very well he enjoys free after school lessons (chess, table tennis) and i pay for karate. I also work part time and am doing a degree in psychology and social sciences. Children of low income families can't have all the benefits but if the parents don't sit on their bottoms feeling sorry for themselves and make an effort, their children won't be too disadvantaged

well we could start by appropriating the assets of those germanic crooks the Royal Family. Freeze Prince Charles's assets and make him cough up all the tax he owes that he has wriggled out of paying over the years, sell off the Queen's stolen jewels and castles, and put the proceeds into helping those on low income. Oh and if jug eared Charlie complains tell him to go earn a living flipping burgers in his favourite place - Maccy D's!!! hehehe

Why do so many people in low income families who have several children and are baring scraping by, keep having more children? It isnt fair to bring children into this world that you cannot provide for and keep having them. That does not make sense to me.
I would rather help the elderly, who are unable to work and on fixed incomes as opposed to an able bodied person that relies on welfare.

It is sad that we have all of Western society set up to use people up without paying them enough to live decently. All while rich money grubbers get more and more off their bones.

No matter what is done, it seems that nothing good has come of it.

Educate the parents first, taking into consideration that the parent is over school age. A lot of them are not, and all they are interested in is having more kids, getting a council house, and living off the state with NO INTEREST whatsoever in getting a job or improving themselves.........
