My two month old just got her 2 month shots today and has a temp of 99.5. I gave her infant tylonol about an hour ago so im pretty sure that she had a higher temp earlier but I didn't check. Is this normal with taking infant tylonol? I know I should call my doctor but its 3 in the morning and I dont want to bother him if its normal

It is absolutely normal for your child to get a low grade temp after any sets of shots. You can give babies infant Tylenol or Motrin. going back and forth between the two every 4 hrs. Any temp above 101.4 for over a 24hr period Is when you should consult your doctor or if the fever is accompanied by any rashes on or around the injection site. If not, just relax and comfort her. and move her legs around working the injected muscles at every diaper change to keep her muscles from getting stiff and causing more soreness and discomfort for her.

A little fever and some crankyness is perfectly normal. If she's not miserable, you don't even need to give the Tylenol. There also could be a small red lump at the site where the doctor gave the shot - again, perfectly normal. It may happen every time, it may not. Any of these reactions are normal and usually go away in about 48 hours.

Tylenol will only lower a temp a degree or two. It is very normal to have a low temp after shots. Absolutely tell the doctor at her next appointment. If she does not have a high pitched scream she is probably ok. But it wouldn't hurt to call the Doc if you are really worried. Your regular doc will probably not be there, but someone in the on call group will be able to help.

Was that an aural or rectal temp?
If aural, it is only a slight fever and nothing to worry about..yet..it is completley normal for a child to spike a bit of a temp after an innoculation. Afterall, an innoculation is injecting dead (or nearly so) agents into the body in order for the body to create antibodies...whew! That is too many bodies in one place and a VERY simple explanation.
I would watch her for a fever tomorrow and if she still has one by afternoon call the doc for advice. Be on the look out for any other symptoms as well, such as swelling at the injection sites etc.
Good luck, HTH and remember only your doc can give adequate medical advice so when in doubt see the doc.

Most of the reaction after being vaccinated is fever that is why after the shot is given the doctor or nurse will always give you a reminder or what to do if ever your child will develop a fever by giving the exact dosage of Tylenol to be administered to the child before leaving the clinic or hospital.

If your baby isn't sleeping already, try to get him/her to sleep for as long as possible, while he/she is sleeping, their body will have a better ability to create the anti-bodies that they are supposed to for these shots and the fever should dissipate during the sleep as well. It is a bit nerve racking and they can get a bit fussy because they don't feel so well, but it is a normal thing, and the Tylenol, even if not affecting the fever yet, does help.

Last month, my two month old ran a fever after her shots, too. It is normal, as vaccinations are just injecting disease into your body. Just monitor the temperature, if it gets out of hand call the doctor. Keep up the Tylenol, that what we did.

thats pretty normal, at least it was for my daughter. Give some childrens tylenol (the one with the eye dropper) and that will knock down the fever. If this lasts more than 24 hours though, you should take her back to your doctor
