As a Villa fan who has missed out on that atmosphere this season (our local derby was Sheffield Utd!) I have to say that Villa v Birmingham always had a great atmosphere (especially now we've started beating them!!)
The rivalry between the clubs is so massive that the atmosphere when we do play is fantastic (especially as the Blues have not had many opportunities to play us in the past 20 years as they have been playing in the fizzy pop league)

I guess they're all special. I'm a Man Utd fan and have been to a Manchester Derby but i've also been with a friend to watch Everton Vs Liverpool and the atmosphere was electric. However, although i've not experienced one myself I reckon the Celtic Vs Rangers would take some beating.

well a got to say that the sunderland and newcastle derby are the best the atmosphere last right till the very end dont matter bout the score line or anything and it last after the match aswell out side the have lyk at both sides of away fans to there buses a line of horses a line of dogs and a line of normal coppers but that still dont stop the riots and the away fans get kept inside for bout 30 mins after kick off they sing throu the ventalators and the home fans sing back and wait outside we that bad that newcastle and sunderland never both play at home on the same day or weekend as this aint allowed as bth fans woud like meet up and theyd be riots

Try going to a Portsmouth v Southampton match. Not so much great atmosphere and pure hatred and venom. Usually always ends in a riot.

Old Firm Derby must be the most electric.

I agree that the 'big' derbies do have good atmosheres, but you cannot forget the 'smaller' clubs derbies, especially the ones who do not play each other very often, for example, Burnley and Blackburn, Portsmouth and Southampton. But if you talk about the best derby atmosphere, even though it feels like they play each other like every month, it has to be Rangers vs Celtic

either liverpool v everton or newcastle v sunderland. In both cases, if you r a supporter of one team nd u live in the area of the other you get constant verbal torture nd people wind u up so much. Where i live, near to newcastle, the mackems(sunderland supporters) always get wound up. Also, because they wind each other up so much sometimes resulting in fights, Newcastle Utd and Sunderland can never have a home game on the same day, unless it is the derby.

Burnley vs Blackburn , as the two clubs don't play each other very often (due to Blackburn being in a higher division than us) every derby game has added spice.

Portsmouth Southanpton (SCUM) whenever we meet there is electrics. TV companies love the tenston. There haven;t been any for a while since Agent Harry sent the Scum down. The Da Vinci code has nothing compared to the conspiracy theories that go on betwen these two sides

I agree with oohgravy. Blackburn v Burnley has to be the best, ask Jim Smith he said so aswell. It ain't just rivalry with this derby it's pure hate.
