According to the QI Book of General Ignorance, technically the largest city in the World by Area is Honolulu. Under a Hawaiian law established in 1907, the City and County of Honolulu are one and the same. This includes not only the rest of the main island of Oahu, but also the rest of the north-western Hawaiian islands which stretch 1500 miles into the Pacific Ocean.
This means that Honolulu covers 2127 square miles, despite having a population under 900000 (to put that in perspective, that’s 12000 times the population of Hemsby - paraphrasing Partridge, A. 2002).
