People are coming to Yahoo Answers in attemp to find love advice, medical advice, help with homework, legal advice etc.. The list goes on and on for the people seeking "help".

Do you really think it's a smart idea for someone who is in need of medical attention to come to Yahoo instead of going to their doctor or emergency room?

Do you really think it's a good idea to give a 14 year old little girl "love" advice? Shouldn't this be something that she should be talking to her parents about?

When people stop talking to their parents, doctor's, teachers, lawyers, therapists, etc, and start asking total strangers (on yahoo) for advice and help, what is this world coming to? lol

No, I dont think its smart for a person to ask for medical advice here as opposed to going to the doctor or ER. But so many people are uninsured and living below poverty level incomes, they cant afford a visit to the doctor let alone the cost of prescriptions; some of them may be simply seeking advice. Some people procrastinate about going to a doctor and have to be convinced.
I dont think its a good idea for a 14 year old to be on the internet these days without some form of parental supervision.
Alot of the people that come here and give answers are parents, doctor's, teachers, lawyers, therapists, etc.

Yes, it helps. What I don't understand is many times to find the answer to someone's question, I go to www.yahoo.com and type in something related to their question. I am confused about why they can't do this themselves.

A forum like this helps people who have social anxiety disorders and gives people with agoraphobia a chance to interact and increase the debilitating effect of their disorder.

It's obviously not smart for someone to come here instead of the emergency room when medical attention is needed, but hey, what can you do?

Because of technology, this world is finding new ways to communicate. People are talking to total strangers online, but everyone is a stranger until you meet them anyway. Technology is ruining the one-on-one verbal idea of communication, but that's the way the cookie crumbles or something.

At work, I prefer to page someone and wait an hour to get a response than to approach them, because when I read what they say, I can curse aloud or make expressions that I would not want them to see, but if I am standing in front of them, I have to remain reserved, put my fake smile on, and tell them how I agree with them. (Mostly when I am in the company of superiors - though I will fight when necessary). :)
