If you're not already on the property ladder then you can usually get a mortgage for 3 or 4 times your income. It of course depends on where you live as to how much a home would cost - if it's Scotland then you're looking at around £50,000 for a house - if it's London it's more like £500,000 (and these are generalisations). Save as much as you can, even if you are not currently able to buy somewhere and keep good accounts. You'll need a good deposit and financial history if you are buying on your own so work hard, save hard and live frugally.

Alternatively look for a job which comes with a house (caretaker, housing manager) etc as in the long term this gives you a roof over your head which is usually rent free or rent-cheap. If you can stay living with parents or relatives as again this means cheap or no rent :)

Having a good life is more difficult - obviously living on your own can get lonely so go out, meet people, go to work and speak to colleagues and make sure that you don't shrivel up into a lonely and miserable person.

Depends on where you live, what you do, what you're willing to do without or with.

Your housing costs should not exceed 25% of your net income. That's a max. So find what you want, figure out what you'd have to make to fit that house in under the 25% level and you'll have a figure.

I live alone and own my own home. :)

First is to find out how much money can you earn a year. Work towards that numbers and find a house that suits your budget. Live prudently; you should be alright.

go see a real estate broker they should be able to tell you if you can afford a house, what type and where. but ruffly you would need to be making a good living and have at lease 3 months worth of living expenses saved(for example if all your living expenses for one month add up to 2000 then you need to save 6000)you also need to save enough for a down payment

it depends where you live. In the city you need a mountain of cash. Out in the sticks, where I am, probably £40,000 a year would do you.
