Should I give them the present at the start or end of my visit?

whatever you do, do not make them tea in bed with the Sunday papers!!! I cannot think if anything worse that my kids friends doing that for me!
Flowers are great, so are food gifts. Chocolates or wine. Give to them when you arrive and thank them at that point for their hospitality.

I think the best thing to do is if you are not travelling far and its not too much trouble bring some flowers and give it to your friends mum. It is a nice gesture and always appreciated.
If flowers prove too difficult you can always get some nice good quality chocolates

end of visit get the mother flowers and the dad well what do
he like ie if he smokes get him some fags if he like music may by a voucher clothes and so on
