The top professional footballers in this country are paid more per week than most 'real' people get in a year. When they are ill, injured or unable to play for some other reason, do their contracts still qualify them for statutory sick pay? If so, what level of pay do they get? Do they get some other form of guaranteed pay as part of the contract?

All footballers get a basic wage, on top of that wage they get a win bonus of thousands of pounds per player in the Prem. Some goalkeepers get a bonus for a clean sheet and some players get a bonus for scoring a goal. If these players get injured they just get a basic wage with no bonuses. One of my friends boyfriend plays for a Championship team but knows a few Prem players.

You have to be of work 4 days before you can claim so in effect Half the players in the coutry could claim cause they only do part of a week anyway, and spend the rest of the time being sick as parrots when they get beat-

No. They also are un-insurable when it comes to health insurance. This is why they are so outrageously paid, and have their own team doctors.
