UPS is the battery backup for desktops...

its called an 'Un-interruptable Power Supply'. or UPS backup device... there are many types all with the same function. If the power goes out your computer stays on...
depending on the size you buy is how long it stays on.
you can even have the UPS tell your pc that the power went out and your pc will perform a shutdown at a predescribed amount of time from the no power notice from the UPS and if the power returns before the shutdown happens, the shutdown command cancels. Some UPS systems even filter the AC power through the battery in real-time to provide unwavering AC power to your PSU in your PC. unlike the fluctuating AC from your socket...which reduces the life of the PSU(power supply unit). - Bye

Laptop is supposed to take with us always like travelling etc..,But desktop we cant, May this is what the reason for battery backup not a built in one in Desktop??
Any way we havin UPS know..

this is a great question and is still in process as i have heard. probably, as i have heard, the first company to launch this would be lenovo(formerly ibm) and the technology would eradicate the UPS companies and give them a true nightmare. obviously this would be much more dearer to the wallet too. there is no more information to it till yet.
so how is the answer?

Hi Well mainly desk top pc use two much power and they will need a hug battor it is not funny emagin 5 car battorier you need about that for half ahour

Because power requirements are very high for desk top PC. Battery for such purpose will be very large and very expensive.

lenovo is very soon launching the same ...but with approx 45 min of backup ...all is due to consumption..

the electric consumption of desktop computers is much more that laptops. so, this system is not used in desktop.
