Do shape shifters need to have an original form? And if so do they have to be in human form or animal form?

* shapeshifting indicates changes that are temporary
* metamorphosis indicates changes that are lasting
* transformation indicates changes that are externally imposed

Shape-Shifter do not need a main form. They may be a "Mimic", what may be animal-vegetable-mineral but you would never really know its original form since in theory they would have the form of the mother at birth (since all organs change to be equal to the form chosen) but could change its form moments after it.

They need an original form that they were created/born in but that can be animal, human or other. There are a great deal of different shape shifters to be had from various backgrounds so for more info you'd need to be more specific.
