really you will need to know the make up of a garment (how an item of clothing is sewn together) otherwise you could design clothes that are a nightmare to sew & make, i'm now a fashion designer after starting as a junior machinist ,then getting into the fashion industry sewing samples for next, george, debs designers.....
i got to see the side of everything from importing fabrics to seeing my sample garment in a next catalogue!...i learnt so many "tricks of the trade" working in the industry as really i did'nt know much before i got my job at Henriques, the people there told me how much you learn from being in a factory environment compared to getting a degree.....i left my job and started my own clothes label whilst learning pattern cutting at an evening class.I'm now my own boss doing my own designs and looking after my daughter at home ...i love it !
try out a sewing class to learn the basics of how clothing is pieced together.. be patient....you will get the dream job you want

Try sewing forums. If you genuinely wish to design clothes and have them sewn up to your designs, you might find someone who is willing to do the sewing for payment or percentage of the profit.

Not sure where you live ? but where i am in Edinburgh we have fabric shops selling cloth for curtains ect.The one where i live locally has a notice board with phone numbers of seamstresses who will make up things for you.You could maybe try somewhere like that.
