Good Question.
I dont see anyone replying this So i thought i would give some of My thoughts. First Point that you have to see is in your own Question. "To Teach" we need an Audience.
Remeber that this itself is the Target.
Your mode of Presentation should be based on this and nothing else.

Here are some criterias you can use to Select your mode of presentation based on the Audience for whom you want to teach:

1. Age-Group of the people (Maturity levels can alter you mode of presentation - Including your body language).
2. Average Understanding and Voacab Levels.
3. Common Language of understanding and Interaction (You dont teach in Spanish/Sanskrit in Japan)
4. Last but not the Least you should see that all the participants are in the Loop with what you teach. Some are fast learners and some are slow. ..u got a build the Bridge.

Good Luck.
