Neil Sedaka. There is a fast version, and my favorite, the ballad, which starts off fast then slows down quickly.

Cherry Lips also sang it, but I've never heard of them.

Neil Sedaka, there are two versions a fast and slow version
he also writes all of his own material as well as for other vocalists Connie Francis was one

I wonder if they're looknig for the version by David Cassidy and the Partridge Family - Partridge being a food.
