EXE is an executable file and doesnt need a program to open. You may have a corrupt file.

I do not know where you downloaded your file from but an exe file should open and install straight away.
Make sure that the file is not a rar or zip file
It could be that the file is currupt and you need to download a different one.
Give us more information on the exe file (what software it is etc) and we may be able to assist further

An executable program can be written for different operating systems such as MS-DOS, Windows, Unix, and Mac. An executable written for one operating system will not necessarily run on another operating system.
However, another possibility is that you simply have a bad download of the program. I'd try deleting the file, downloading the file again. Normally the site will indicate what operating system the program will run on.

EXE is an abreviation for executable file which means you just double click on it and it should run.
Should the .exe file not run and is asking a program to run it then the file is "corrupt" and theres nothing you can do to fix it.
Download the file again or preferably from another source.
Good luck

it is supposed to work. take a look if there's another extension after that .exe your talking about. Example: yourfile.exe.wtf
then if that's the case, look for that file extension on the web, and look for the program designated for that file extension.

If you're using a Mac don't bother with an .exe file.
I believe that these files are amongst the culprits for spreading virus.
Take care.

Did you scan this file for viruses before you tried to open it? And do you scan all downloads for viruses before opening them?
