Since we say about it just cracks me up every time. And is that how all Canadians say it or am I misinformed? No disrespect intended, I love Canada.

Hey Kelly Bundy, don't get all bent out of shape! It's not good for your health. I don't claim to know about every country's culture just as I'm sure you don't know either. I don't live in Canada therefore the only reference I have about your culture, other than when I visited, is the Canadians we know and they pronounce about "aboot". I get it that there are all types of people and social classes and levels of education, that's why I asked if I was misinformed.

I am from Toronto, Canada and have never said 'aboot' in my life... I know people who pronounce it that way but I believe they are just lazy and it is the dialect that they grew up with...
it's like an American who pronounces "wash" as "warsh"
back home we call those people "HOSERS", I suppose it's a similar insult to the american "trailer park trash" ... it just means common or uneducated...
If you ever meet anyone from the Maritime provinces you will hear it a great deal as they have the Irish/Scottish/English seafaring heritage and are staunchly proud of the Gaelic culture

I'm Australian. Yes, Canadians do say 'aboot' for 'about' (at least that's how it sounds to my ear). In fact, that's the only way I can distinguish a Canadian from an American - the way Canadians pronounce 'out' and 'about'.

You've been watching too much TV, sweetie.
Most of us don't speak that way. Maybe farmer Moo-Cow somewhere in the middle of nowhere... but I've certainly never heard it where I live in a big city.
