I have a bunch of workers that have woken me up at 8-8:30 every morning for the last week & I'm sure its not legal.
Does anybody know what the council says about this type of activity & what r my rights on this topic?

Noise from DIY or Domestic Improvements and Maintenance
More people now undertake their own home maintenance and DIY (do-it-yourself). We work during the day and find that the only time to do DIY work is in the evening or at the weekend. However, our neighbours who also have to work, expect to be able to relax in peace and quiet when they return home.

The Environmental Health Division recommends the following hours for commercial contractors and to avoid annoying your neighbours please try to work around the same times when you carry out your own DIY:

Monday to Friday: 8:00am - 6:00pm
Saturday: 8:00am - 1:00pm
No work on a Sunday or Bank Holiday
If you have to work outside these hours:
try not to start too early, or finish too late
try to keep any noisier work for the middle of the day - quieter work such as painting and decorating should be kept for the beginning and end of the day
contact your neighbours and advise them of what you are doing together with the times you anticipate doing any noisier work - giving notice may well avoid any complaint.

I know exactly what you mean. I work days and nights rotating shifts and i have been through the process so many times. Im affraid 08.00 is the legal noise time because that is the general start time for businesses all over the world.

I think you'll find 8 a.m. is OK. That's when Camden council allow workers to start but it may be different for other councils.

Most councils will have their own by-laws, but the general construction guidelines are working hours of 8am to 6.30pm.

Check out your local council's site.
