Check for viruses, they can make your computer do anything they want it to do. When you do get it working again make sure system restore is switched on, don't just assume it is. Don't use Norton for anti virus because that will slow your computer down a lot. Maybe you can go to the Microsoft website and search for anti virus trials?

IE (and your pc) are imoacted by Spyware and Viruses. Sounds like you have one or both.

For spyware, install the free Microsoft Defender.
For a free antispyware program, install something like AVAST. at avast.com

Another thing to do is right-click on the C: drive, properties, ibdexing, and ubselect indexing. This alone can really, really slow down your pc.

Don't blame the add-ons for the slow speed of IE. Migrate to Firefox. I bet once you start using firefox you will uninstall IE.

Don't forget to install the adblock extension
