I want to join my high school soccer team, but I feel like I am out of shape. What should I do??? I haven't played soccer since I was in 4rth grade. I'm in 9th grade now. What should I do? Should I just take up running?

I hear the soccer coaches only take to best try-out players..

Sure, endurance/stamina is vital, but how about football skills (etc. dribbling, finish, passing?)

How would I improve on technical skills in such a short time? Would they still take me if I was good enough?

if you are interested in the sport .. then i recommend you try out .. if there is time for you to get in shape before trying out .. talk to the coach about his requirements .. like my highschool coach had us run 3 miles in 17 mins. for tryouts .. as a requirement .. also work on your ball skills .. like dribbling .. cutting .. ball taps .. anything that will help you get comfortable with the ball.. also .. i play in college .. and a lot of the stuff we do at practice is sprints .. so sprint a LOT .. cause thats a lot of what it is .. hope this helps

Depending how much time there is before tryouts, you may have time to get in better shape. If you really want to go for it, take some time each day to do exercises and drills. Increase the amount of effort each day. It may be difficult at first, but once you get back into it, you'll feel better. On the first day, you can stretch, run and do some drills. Second day, you can stretch, run more, and do other drills.

It may help to ask how the team usually trains. Pick up some tips on what you can improve.

get out there and try out, if you make it, the training will put you right in shape, I liked the "Defensive" Position in front of the "Goal", I loved to catch someone "SLEEPING", and nail them "OFF SIDE" with a penalty ! just a fast step, and "BANG, I GOT 'EM OFF SIDES", LOL, YEAAAA !
