How to find my motherboard supports higher versions??

I am using AMD Athlon 2200+, 1.8Ghz, 40GB HDD, 128MB RAM. my doubts is.. i want to upgrade my RAM to 512 or 1GB. how do i know that my motherboard can support higher versions of RAM. please dont tell, ask your vendor.... can i find it out of myself???

if you can find the model number of your board, then i would just google it and see what comes up.
