24, Fox News, the FBI, the SECRET SERVICE, the CIA & SECRET WIRE TAPS?
A few days ago I asked the question if George W. Bush could be asassinated. My primary reason for posing this question was because I had seen a BBC Docu/Drama which depicted the American President, GWB being assassinated. I was not so much bemused by the answers I received, (by the way the question was pulled down by Yahoo, still no good reason why) as much as I was shocked by the level visceral fear that Americans have of their own government, news organisations & simple minded entertainment television programs. Like fox and 24. Are America and her People really no longer land of the FREE and HOME of the Brave? People should not fear its government; the government should fear its people

I think a lot of Americans are irrationally afraid of being the targets of attacks by foreign terrorists (i.e. those living in parts of the country which have zero strategic or symbolic interest), but few actually fear the U.S. government. Although if the government wanted, it could make your life pretty miserable if you went against it, there are too many protections in U.S. law and in its Constitution to be afraid of it.

And by the way, I watched "Death of a President". I really enjoyed it. Very thought provoking. Did not advocate assassinating the President - quite the opposite - showed what a major constitutional quandary the death of a sitting President would be, not to mention its global impact. The people depicted in that docu-drama were not scared, they were mostly pissed off!

Not to worry that your question was pulled down. It was solely down to somebody disagreeing with you. It is very unfair sometimes. I can guarantee the US government, FBI, etc., did not do it. It was just somebody who felt personally indignant.

There is a difference in watching a TV program and living here in the United States. We are not afraid; perhaps more wary. After 9/11, this country came together like nothing I have ever seen in my life. As far as the government, I wouldn't call it fear as much as lack of control of the government. We have indeed lost the "By the People" part of the deal. We are, however, more free than the rest of the world (I am well traveled) and brave enough to defend this land if it should come to that. You'd be surprised!

Just don't confuse the people with its government. And don't believe everything you see on TV.

Yo Europe dude---
Let me start where you ended here

People should not fear its government; the government should fear its people !!
Okay---let's say the government DOES fear the people----THEY are the ones over here that have all the freaking nukes and fire power-- so-- maybe now you have a good reason why a lot of people DO fear the government !!
There again, I think you read too much in the stuff you see and hear in and concerning the media about us over here--- we really don't LIVE IN FEAR --- we actually live more in apathy than anything else--- we're spoiled as hell--- have all kinds of money and time on our hands--- luxuries enough to throw some away even !! We bitchtalk and moan about everything--- and this is more out of boredom than anything else !! We complain like hell about our government and the policies of our leaders in one breath and are ready to die for them in the next !!! We are a complicated bunch of snots over here--- don't even understand ourselves a lot of the time !! So, don't go off thinking you've got this thing pinned down as Americans living IN anything ---especially fear---- because --- face it dude--- when have you ever known US to back out of a freaking fight !! Got one--- send us an invite--- we'll be the dudes pulling up in the RVs before anyone else shows up---now is that fear you see here ???

There is a difference between a fictional television program depicting the assassination of a political leader, and a person actually talking about doing that to a real one, who is currently serving.

Your question, while is was removed by Yahoo, probably due to someone's filed abuse report, could be seen by a federal agency as some sort of plot, which is illegal. I see no reason to discuss such things, anyway.

24 is a T.V. show, Fox News is a news channel with a conservative-bias (even conservative commentators on other channels will admit to that). And as long as your aren't breaking the law, you will never see the Secret Service. The CIA is not allowed to operate with U.S. borders, as it is a foreign intelligence agency.

I do not live in fear. Obviously, we all are a little more cautious, due to the fact that we know we've been attacked before. I have concern for my government over the fact that our President is doing a very poor job, but that's about it.

Americans are proud to have their rights under the US Constitution. We do not "fear" wire taps, etc.... because they are intended to trap off terrorists. But we do make sure that the government is kept in check that our civil liberties are not violated in the process.

We're not in "fear" of GWB. He was elected by the majority of the country. Whether he is liked or not, he is still the President of the United States and will be until next election. Regardless of opinion, no one but a terrorist would wish his assassination. If the BBC wants him killed, then I question their integrity.

As for news organizations, we never trust anything they say, including yours, because they report what they wish to report, rather than report in an unbiased manner. Years ago, the news was the news. Now it is a forum for agendas. We don't take them seriously, but we do get annoyed with them. We're perfectly capable of thinking, we don't need the media to influence us.

As for the "land of the free, home of the brave"......yes indeed we are. And always will be. We have our problems, but when push comes to shove, we push and shove back harder than any nation on this planet!

PS.... I'm armed to the teeth also!

Your data are incorrect. We in Canada do no longer have more suitable guns than you do contained in the u . s .. the u . s . is the most heavily armed u . s . contained in the global. Militarily, voters, Police and regulation Enforcement, etc. we do not actually have armed guards at our colleges or hospitals nor at our airports. in case you want hearth ability the U. S. has it. With all that weaponry, i imagine it creates a phobia. I particular do not understand who informed you that we've more suitable guns than you, besides the undeniable fact that it truly is definiitly incorrect. verify with the american Rifle association. also, for some reason, some human beings experience it is your suitable to undergo hands???? you've us outgunned seventy 9 to at least a million. i'm taliking about registered firearms obviously.

I agree they are so paranoid about every thing from the reds under the bed to Iran is going to attack with a nuclear bomb, the Chinese are taking over, watch out for UFOs to all the conspiracy theories and WWMD ,fear of the black man and fear of everyone different and they try to instill that fear in us around the world and it has nothing to do with 9/11 because they have been like that for years.Imagine if they been under constant terrorism attacks like Britain I don't think they would have handled it as well as the British Stiff upper lip and all that.

No more FEAR than Spain or Japan or England or well you get the picture. By the way anyone one can be assassinated. If someone is willing to give their life to accomplish it. It can not be stopped. However, I really hope no one is STUPID enough to try. Some of the FREE and BRAVE carry weapons and we USE THEM

Americans are the most fearful, repressed and anxious people on the face of the earth. The problem with having a lot means being faced with someone trying to take it away. The richer and more powerful you get the more anxieties you have. Most American are only in favour of freedom of speech of you agree with their own personal point of view, and they will readily give up any of their freedoms in order to protect them. A politician can harness this fear into making them agree to do anythimg.
