Why do you thing republicans constantly ruin education? No child left behind = any idiot must pass. Dumbya wants to give other idiots a chance, that'll be his legacy. Just compare education from the beginning until post-graduate degrees: ANY country can laughh to tears at our kids.

Sadly, America wasn't always like this. But the real control of the American people began when Corporate America asserted its control around the turn of the last century.

Exactly... the government's goal is to lead with the least amount of resistance. It is not in their best interest to educate the majority of the ppl concerning what they are doing behind the scenes, thinking for themselves or asking questions.

dumb is more a matter of personal drive, whereas ignorant can be manipulated by government by, ommission( don't talk about it), distract - direct your attention on other matters, create a sense of the issue is too big for one person to affect, thus keeping the public involvement to a minimum, delay until the attention has moved on to something else.
