I was alluding to prayer, and to God. I pray that God help me find a marriage mate. I've stayed within the Christian boundaries, I've never done anything wrong, but I'm 25 and as alone as I can be. I'm ready to die.

If my child called and left an urgent voicemail, it better be urgent. Asking for money is not urgent. Our kids arent handed money or anything. They earn what they are given, just as I did when I was young. If they have to work for and earn what they get, they will appreciate it more and not grow up acting like brats thinking anything they want will be handed to them.

A parent's job is to raise an independent, capable and responsible individual, but it depends upon the situation. If the child is young and really needs help, I would call back immediately.

If the child is older -- late teens or adulthood -- I would not give money as a general rule. Parents at that stage, I believe, are there to provide the basics plus emotional support and guidance. A 21-year-old doesn't need to get money from mom and dad to buy new shoes. Get a job and save your own money. It's good practice for the rest of your life.
