I have a friend who is mute. In high school he was probably one of the nicest guy with a great bright.

However it has been a while since I last saw him. We start talk again not long ago after five years since high school. He seems to be more cold, cruel and cunning. It seems like nothing he did isn't without a serious purpose behind it.

He's reallly convince people doesn't like him because he's mute. He always think if girl is interest enough in him to go out with him, it's just to use him or have a boyfriend until they find someone who isn't mute then dump him.

I know he wasn't treated well in high school, he was basically ignored by everyone. Girls also made fun of him if he try to ask them out.

I don't understand why he turn out this way? Why didn't other disabled people turn out like him?

Why did he turn out this way? Because nobody treated him with respect. Simple, common respect.

This world is a cold, cruel place and even more so when one is disabled: I know, I walk on forearm crutches from Agent Orange exposure from the military. I get NO support from those responsible and what little help I do receive, is only from those friends "who know me" and who truly, honestly care about me.

In today's warped society, we're seen as "easy targets", since we are seen as "less than normal/average".
The old "judging a book by it's cover" mentality.
The bullying, the taunting, the unjustified judgements and comments made about about ourselves, because of our condition(s), simply reinforce this negativity.

And yes, I get the same attitude from American women. They'll use me as the "rebound guy", then I hear BS like "you're too nice" or "I made a mistake in hooking up with you" and they're off/back to the same kind of guy that they left in the first place (usually drug dealers, abusers and disloyal "playas").
They don't care that I have feelings, or that I have a genius-level I.Q.; it always seems to be a "what's in it for me?" attitude.
And since I am not "rich", I am not "chosen" (therefore reinforcing the stereotype that "women are prostitutes": you have to pay to play, either the hourly rate at the brothel or half the assets when you two get divorced).

Believe it or not, there ARE disabled people like him, becoming bitter at "American societal attitudes"; they're called "Disabled Veterans". If you don't believe me, print this out and have a few Vets down at the local V.A. clinic or hospital give you a second opinion...

"Life" is tough enough, and then you have your speech or legs or eyesight "taken away" and it's that more difficult. Add to that insensitive, idiotic people (some of which whose job it is to "assist you"), and yes, you'd become "bitter" too.

unfortunatley your friend has let the negative ignorant responses of those around him affect the way he thinks about the world in general, this is a personal response with some people being able to cope with lifes hard knocks better than others, its a shame he didnt have more supportive people around him to help him deal with these issues
