The GRE is basically like the SAT except it's for college students. When applying to Grad school they use the GRE in a similar fashion a SAT is used when getting into college. It is also similar in that it is a broad spectrum test. It tests math, vocabulary, and writing. It is a very difficult test. You have to take the test at a testing center. You get your basic score immediately, your writing score is sent to you later.

I suggest:
1. Getting one (I got two) at least, GRE study books. They give VERY helpful tips proven to increase your score.
2. Taking the GRE course. Your school or one nearby will probably offer a one/two day GRE prep. course. It is well worthwhile.
3. Practice, Practice, Practice your vocab. Knowing root words is very helpful.
4. Give yourself at least 3 months to study. You'll need to take GRE at least in the first term of your senior year if not sooner.
