i 2nd limewire! I've used it for a while its pretty good and fast! Just remember to be careful using things like that!

Sure. Try Jamendo. You won't find big names there, but there's plenty of good music of all kinds. Oh and, the quality is amazing - 192Kb/sec. Ogg files... 'nuff said. Naturally, MP3s are also available.
There is also Magnatune, but I know little about them.
P.S. I assumed you mean legally free music...

well, you could try lime wire, or frostwire, but i found a site called music.download.com. it has a lot of different genres, the only problem i had with it was that it seemed to kind of cut off the end of the song.not with all of them though. you have to pay for bearshare, and you can't burn the ones from there.i tried limewire and it slowed my computer down so much i uninstalled it.i dunno, give music.download.com a try
