Erythrocytes (erythros = red) are also known as red blood cells, erythrocytes, or red corpuscles. These are non-nucleated cells.
RBC count ranges from 4-5.5 million/cu mm of blood
Normal size: 7.2 microns
Functions:
Transport of oxygen from lungs to tissues
Transport of carbon dioxide from tissues to lungs
Acts as buffers and aid in acid-base regulation
White blood cells or leucocytes (leuco = colorless) are colorless and nucleate cells.
Based on presence or absence of granules in cytoplasm they are divided into 2 main types:
Granulocytes: with granules
1.neutrophils
2.eosinophils
3.basophils
Agranulocytes(A means without…so without granules)
1.monocytes
2.lymphocytes
WBC count 4000 – 11000/cu mm of blood
Functions: mainly help in defense action of body
