I have two red ear sliders, one's about 3 1/2 " and the other is 4". They have about 30 gal. of water in their 40 gal tank, but i will be upgraded as soon as i save up enough money. right now i am using the zoo meds 501 canister filter and i am having to clean it about every two days if not everyday. i need something lot more powerful. i've used the fluval internal filters in the past but i just hate the hassel of having to stick my hand in the water everytime i need to clean it. i like having the canister filter but i just need something stronger.
i was considering going with a fluval 305 but it's a lot of money to invest. i probably won't be getting a new tank anytime soon, but in the mean time i do need to get the new filter.
so, which one do you think is the best?

Canister filters are solid. There are fluvals, Ehiems, and the single which I easily have for my res a Rena xp3 clear out. that is okay, yet i nevertheless might want to take out the turtle poop day-after-day, so i imagine on a daily basis maintenence is extra major than some clear out.
