I am woundering if any body knows the population of native Americans

According to the US census 2005 we have 5,726,002 American Indian and Alaska Native.

Native people make up about 1% of the U.S. population.

Keep in mind this is enrolled Native people. The U.S. census only counts Natives who are officially enrolled. There are a ton more Natives who are not enrolled, so the population is at least slightly higher than U.S. census numbers.
