You more than likely have a hardware recognition problem
don't freak out--- it happens from time to time with all of us !!

One sure fire way to settle it if this is the case--- follow these steps
----You'll need to turn off your computer
---- disconnect the tower that has the "burner"
---- now restart your computer--- and bring it all the way up
-----Now turn off your computer again
----reconnect the tower with the burner
-----now restart your computer yet again
------Now see if you have recognition of the burner---- this should solve your situation--- I certainly hope so--- this systems reset reboot is one way of forcing your system to "reacclaimate" to the hardware connected to it--- and will settle issues when it is siimpy failing to recognize hardware that it should be acknowledging !!!

Hope this helps----and good luck to you !!!!!

there is no drivers for a cd burner, if windows doesnt detect it then my best guess would be is it connected correctly but you say that it is, Did you check the jumper setting on the drive, is the ide cable plug in correct, the red side goes to pin number one. if you have double checked all these check the bois and see if it sees it.. if it doesnt then the drive has to be bad. you can also check it on another computer it you have one. Also note that some computers have problems with you have the pin set to auto select, if you have it on the slave make sure the jumper is set to slave feel free to mail me if you have any other questions

Check to see if a CD installer came with the burner. Their is suppose to be a downloadable CD to program into your computer, so that it can synchronize with your burner

As a rule if you are running an older version of windows-be it xp or another-you have to also program the driver for the cd. If you do not have it, go to-drivers.com. Or most times if you use windows to search for new hardware it will find the driver and program itself to recognise it.

You probably have to install the drivers.
