They weren't alone in this, Egypt and many countries in Europe also funded these "Muslim Extremists." They were paid to wage guerilla warfare against the Russians and now we're funding the movement against terrorism. The war on terror could have been avoided!

Youre all missing the point

CJ I never claimed I was an expert, and you are way off basis about the "Holy War". Thats a term the Americans came up with. Along with countless other terms that get lost in translation from Arabic to English.

So because you've "studied" political science, you're now an expert on the subject?

The US "funded" the lesser of the two evils in many world conflicts. At the time of the Afghanistan invasion by the Soviet Union, the US was in a Cold War. We would certainly have sided with anyone who was against Communism, which was the world threat at the time.

Now that Islamic terrorists are the main world threat, why wouldn't we fund those opposed to that? Political climates change throughout the decades, and one has to adapt to that.

The War on Terror would not have been avoided because it is due to Islam wanting to make the world Islamic. Plain and simple. There is nothing political about it. It's purely a religious war. Islam deems the West as being "infidels", Christian, Jewish, and "Crusaders". You hear it in their rhetoric constantly. As soon as you come to grips with this concept, the more educated you will be.

Well...I think everyone here is missing the point. What about "Operation Northwoods" ? Look it up on Wikapidia they will explain clearly that the U.S. "Staged" a terror campaign. However America was "fabricating" and "staging" terror campaigns way before this event happened.

Sheeple People who refuse to accept the fact that the U.S. Government had their hand in the Terror Attacks of 911 are just plain ignorant. It's impossible for Jet fuel or Kerosene to melt iron...LOOK AT THE PERIODIC TABLE OF ELEMENTS. Also if the floors collapsed causing a chain reaction it would have taken well over 90 seconds for the buildings to come down. They came down at free fall speed....9 seconds. There is no logical argument here. Explosives were pre-planted in the building. Case closed! Some idiots will argue that the fires were raging hot inferno’s...however if that was the case then why were there people standing in the holes where the planes impacted waving for help? Their clothes weren’t even burnt. Here we are talking about the biggest crime scene in the history of the United States...and what did Guilani do? He scooped up all the evidence and got rid of it as fast as he possibly could. Sent overseas to be recycled? I doubt it...my guess is they dumped it all in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

If any of you nincompoops would look at the evidence...it's a common tactic for a country to injure or attack itself and then blame it on the enemy. Then we can go get em. Common tactic, there is even a name for it...it’s called.. “Pretext for Military Intervention” Why don't all you wonderful wise little kids tell me why NORAD didn't scramble any fighters to escort the hijacked planes down? They didn't miss 1, but 3!! Anytime a commercial airline goes off course without explanation, within 10 minutes, fighter jets are supposed to escort them down. Especially the air space over the Pentagon! Hmmm. How convenient. You think it was because Bush ordered Cheney to take control over NORAD the same morning of the attacks? Did you also know that the WTC changed owners about six months prior to the attacks? Did you also know that the buildings were worth more if destroyed than standing? That Larry Silverstein is the man who cashed out on the scam...walking away with billions? Did you know that there was a flurry of activity on Wall Street prior to the attacks, and the majority of the trading was “Put options” on the doomed Airlines stock? Did you know that there were multiple explosions heard inside the buildings from all kinds of firefighters, police officers and witnesses? Did you know that WTC Building 7 fell at approximately 5:30 p.m.? That the building did not suffer any major damage, but it somehow blew up into a fine pile of dust? Do you Morons even know what propaganda is? Do you know that it is also a well known and effectively used tool for the government to pull the wool over your eyes? Well, don't say we didn't warn you when your asking yourself 5 years from now "How could this happen?" It's sheeple people who make it easy for the government to do whatever they want. Educate yourself and open your eyes folks. This is real, and there are more than just a couple of us who think so. Go to google and type in Terror Attacks of 911...have yourself a look at all the choices there are to choose from.

OK for OSAMA BUSH, stop blaming REagan for what Carter started. WHo started supporting Afghan Muslim fanatics. HInt look at the moscow olympics. As for terrorism, that is not a n example of AMerican backed terrorism. We did back Terrorism against Cuba. WE gave refuge to a Cuban who hijacked Cuban planes.

We may not fund them directly, but we seem to always look away.

I am American and I know about this because I dated a Russian. He told me all about this right away when we started going into Afghanistan. I guess we never expected them to turn on us, we thought the USSR was the only enemy. By the way, Bin Laden was the one in control of the militants at the time.

If you studied Poli Sci you would understand the statement, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." It wasn't just the funding of the mujahadeen that was the problem. Bin Laden doesn't like the fact that we're in Saudi Arabia. They also looked upon us as weak and so they attacked us. Easier to win if your opponent won't fight back.

I do. They may have called it guerilla warfare, what ever, it is the same. Muslims can say that they are not terrorist, but that they are guerilla fighters against the US. Its just that when you fund people to help them fight someone who is an enemy to both of you, its guerilla warfare. When they stop listening to their "capital" investors, then they become terrorist...

Muhammed started and funded terrorism. The united states fought a proxy war against the soviets during the cold war. The afghans were fighting for their independence from the commies. The commies lost and the afghans wanted to take on the big dog on the block because they were emboldened from their victory and angry that the Saudis invited the US to the middle east to defend it from more aggression.

You can go back a lot farther than that. Paying the Germans and French to fight against England for independence. Of course the Hessian's were mercenaries so they fought on both sides. The Civil war etc.

Go back in time......(just because you were hatched in the 70's or there after) does not mean terrorism started then. See what Spain did to piss the Muslims off to begin with. The war on terror could have been avoided!....yeah right. It's long over due.

You are guilty of one of the classic errors in history, my friend. One cannot view the events of a different time through today's moral prism. When the Mujaheddin were combatting the Soviets, we were in the midst of the Cold War. Anyone willing to fight Communism were the good guys. Those fighters helped to topple the Evil Empire.
