This day and age I dont think raw meat or fish can be good for anyone, cat or dog or human, to eat.

street cats or ferrel cats can eat pretty much anything they find appealing, because they have done so their entire lives. house cats on the other hand are a different story. if the shrimp was introduced to a cat later in his life, it may not sit well with him. though most cats can eat most forms of raw meat, they are like humans in the sense that they too have allergies and reactions to foods. he may not have liked it, i know many a feline that don't like seafood...

Most likely the cat threw up because it ate the shrimp too quickly - and probably nearly whole. Cats love fish and so they tend to gobble it down really fast. Thier digestive tracts can't handle rapid intake of large pieces of food, though, so it gets sick to it's stomach ... just like we do when we eat too fast! However, when we do that, usually we just feel queasy & uncomfortable ... cats, on the other hand (probably being smarter than thier human counter-parts), just up-chuck it.

Cats can eat most types of meat raw if prepared carefully and eaten while it is still fresh, but to be on the safe side it's better to always cook meat to kill any bacteria or parasites that may be left in the meat. Some meats like pork must be cooked very thoroughly because pork may contain diseases like toxoplasmosis and anjeszky's disease.
Different meats and organs contain different vitamins and have different effects on a cat. If you want to feed your cat meat, here is a summary of some common meat products:
Liver: Liver is a good source of energy & vitamin A. It may cause softer stools or diarrhea if raw, and may cause harder stools or constipation if cooked. Do not feed your cat too much liver because liver is very rich in vitamin A and your cat can get vitamin A poisoning.
Heart: Heart is nutritious and has a lot of protein because it is essentially one large muscle and cats like it.
Kidneys: Kidneys are cheap and should be soaked in cold water first to thoroughly clean it off.
Lung: Lung is extremely cheap or free, but it is very low in nutritional value and cats don't usually like it very much.
Cow Udders: Cow udders are extremely cheap but are very low in nutritional value. They can also carry the disease that causes mastitis in cows.
Spleen: Spleen is made mostly of membranes and blood and can cause diarrhea.
Bones: Soft bones (boiled and/or crushed) are a good source of minerals for your cat, but do not feed chicken bones or brittle bones to a cat because they are sharp and splintery and they may get caught in the cat's throat and cause it to choke.
Tripe: Tripe is nutritious but it is usually too tough for cats to chew, it is better suited for dogs.
