In the game of "MYST" what is the combination to the safe in the pump house?

I have gone through all the books in the library & can't figure out anything!The game seems cool but I can't get anywhere. 10 pts. for the best help!!

This is a spoiler....

Go to the wooden house, and enter the combination for the safe next to the door (7,2,4). Open the safe, get the match, and light it with the matchbox. Turn around and light the pilot light below the boiler.
Turn the gas wheel all the way up (green icon). Wait until the thumping sound stops, then turn the wheel all the way down (red icon), and QUICKLY get out of the house and into the tree to the right of it (see library map for location) before the "elevator" in the tree goes underground.

I have the game, I once had a hard time playing this game. But then it became easyer.

Then, I took the easy way, I went to different game cheating web sites and it took away some of the fun out of the game.
