A doctor friend tells me that ulcers are caused by many disorders. These include canker sores, leukoplakia, gingivostomatitis, oral cancer, oral lichen planus, oral thrush, herpes simplex, and other disorders. The skin lesion of histoplasmosis may also appear as a mouth ulcer.

Aphthous ulcer is more common in young adults than in children or older adults.

If your boyfriend or girlfriend has one of the before mentioned problems and has a high acid level, a kiss with spittle exchange will cause you to get an ulcer. Even oral sex from an infected person will cause ulcer exchange. The best thing to do is not kiss or have oral sex for a week to ten days. This is per a medical doctor.

I pray this answer is helpful.

No they are not contagious. Here are some tips for treatment:

Gargling and swallowing soluble paracetamol relieves the pain and rinsing the mouth with iced water before a meal makes eating possible. Pastilles and gels that contain anaesthetic have been the mainstay of treatment for years.

Those looking for a more natural treatment use camomile tea. Allow it to cool, then swill it around the mouth before drinking it. Other herbs also used by many with good results include echinacea, myrrh and licorice which has had the glycyrrhizic acid removed (called deglycyrrhizinated licorice or DGL).
