here's a simple formula for u to remember: -

(ur height in cm - 100 cm) x0.9 = ur ideal wt in kgs

so according to it ur ideal wt should be = (164-100) x0.9 = 57.6 kg.

a relatively critical calculation is via calculating ur body mass index (bmi) which according to indian ethnicity varies between 19-25

ur ideal wt range according to bmi----- formula is

ur height in metre x ur height in metre x 19 = indicating the lowest range in kgs which is for u = 1.64x1.64x19 = 51.1 kg

and

ur height in metre x ur height in metre x 25 = indicating the highest range in kgs which is for u = 1.64x1.64x25 = 67.24 kg

so as per ur height ur ideal weight range is = not less than 51 kg and not more than 67 kg

How do you know if you are obese?

Most doctors calculate obesity using a formula known as the Body Mass Index (BMI).

It is a measure based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.

To calculate your BMI divide your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres.

Body Mass Index
Underweight: less than 20
Normal weight: 20-25
Overweight: 25 - 29.9
Obese: over 30
Morbidly obese: over 40

A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight and one of 30 or above is considered obese.

Doctors have recently recognised a new category: those with a BMI above 40 are considered morbidly obese.

People with BMIs between 19 and 22 live longest. Death rates are noticeably higher for people with indexes 25 and above.

The BMI is not infallible. For instance, it is possible for a healthy, muscular athlete with very low body fat to be classified obese using the BMI formula.
