I have been working at the same place for 5 years. I have tried to quit only to go back. It has it's advantages, yet it has disadvantages. I am just tired of the some of the crap that is going on and I don't know how to change it. I don't have to work but do it for pleasure. And here lately I just want to throw my keys to the place and run far far away. Should I try to wait it out to see if it gets better?

well i find that the only work i like to do is at my own discretion.. when i can set my own hours, make my own rules, and do what i want to do.. thats a perfect world situation.. and since its not, i would just sit down and make a list of all the good things and all the bad things. if the bad things outweigh the good things, i think you should leave.. no company is worth losing your sanity and stress is a major cause of some health problems.. trust me, you don't need that. i have worked with some of the faultiest companies in california and stressed to the point where i wa literally in the hospital.. its not worth it.. however, if the good out-weighs the bad, stick it out. you will feel much better about yourself in the end when you look back and say "wow, i went thru a lot in this company and i wanted to leave, but i stuck it out and now I am the ceo!!" lol well maybe not but it is a rewarding feeling to overcome obstacles..life isn't easy so make of it what you can.. good luck

You have several things going on that need to be analyzed separately.
If your job is just for pleasure, you may not have applied a serious enough attitude toward it, which is likely to be the root cause of your malaise. The fact that you have quit and gone back reveals that you haven't taken your own goals in life seriously.
Honestly, every job has it's advantages and disadvantages. How you view them comes from how serious you are about yourself and your abilities (your self-esteem.) Also in every job, there is the "garbage" that goes on. You cannot change others, but you can definately change yourself. Interestingly though, if you change others will respond to your growth by either growing themselves, or falling away from you.
You should not "wait it out." That indicates that you are not willing to stretch yourself out to grow, and that you think the attitudes of others will change if you just think they should. This is a version of "magical thinking."
To turn this situation to your advantage, first, decide what your life-time, twenty-year, ten-year, and five-year goals are. Next, decide how your job fits into that plan. Once you are at that point you will know for yourself what the right thing to do will be. And you will love it.

You can never solve a problem anywhere, weather its a home, work, school by running away. If you can change some think at work for better change it by talking with your boss first. I do that always. Its going to be every where. Don't throw the keys but hold it more tied now. Do it for every one not only for yourself. I bet you will be proud at the end. Be a winner and not a loser. Write down this on top of your bed and see that everyday till you feel that you are a winner. good luck

My belief is that if something bothers you, you have 2 choices:
1. Change the situation you're in.
2. Deal with it.
This goes for everything, job, friends, love, money, health, everything. If you don't like your job, and you don't have to be there, then leave. Find something that will bring you happiness, somethng that will make you feel good about yourself.

Or, deal with it and shut up. You've only got yourself to blame for not making your life more enjoyable and rewarding. Nobody likes a complainer. What are you waiting for?

You should open your own business.

Get your resume in order and find another job before you quit what you've got. You can apply online and have them not call your job to check your references until they decide they want you. If you are sick of what you do you may want to go into a different type of job, a complete change will open up your eyes to new possibilities. Make sure you really check out the places you apply to, the benefits etc.
In other words do it all by logic and with thinking, don't make rash decisions because you need to keep the cash flow coming in or you will regret it.

If you don't have to work, then why put up with the stress? I would find rewarding volunteer work to do instead. You will get a lot more respect doing that and feel good for making a difference to a cause. Good Luck! Be Happy!

well

i have a serious bias, but if you are working for pleasure, you should open your own business,

it can be anything you like doing, and you will be the boss if you choose to work with other people

If it hasn't gotten any better in 5 years, it's not likely to get better now.

Find another job that you like doing more.
