Any soap is fine, unless it's a specialized soap (i.e. for treating acne or antibacterial soap) so long as you do not use douche. Sorry for being a guy.

Use an antibacterial soap like Lever 2000. Anything or abnormal swelling, you should contact a doctor. It is very important that after sex if something feels funny, it is, unless you are with an established partmer. You get yearly tests to verify that you have nothing. You are ultimately responsible for your behavior. I always & cleaned, but with anti-bacterial soap only. I hate to put it this way, not trying to earn best answer, and not play the game, pay the price. I did and am miserable and on meds for it 10+ years later.
Overall, any antibacterial soap. Take a shower after sex. All of the other is in the bathtub due to you know what
WASH, RINSE& REVIVE!
Rx: Valtrex or Penicillin depending.

There is no reason why you should not use soap to wash yourself vaginally. However, a small percentage of women do find that some soaps - especially the highly scented variety - can cause irritation. The vulva, the term referring to the labia, clitoris, and vagina, produces a natural discharge that removes the germs and unwanted 'stuff' from the area. This discharge can be white or clear and will smell differently depending on the individual. Douching the area will disturb the natural bacteria and may make you more susceptible to germs. To keep the area healthy, eat well, exercise, wipe front to back, and wash with soap and water.

I like to use mild soaps like Dove, Caress, Ivory, or Jergens. I don't like the more harsher soaps(Zest, Irish Spring) cause I feel their too strong and may strip away the flora(good bacteria). Your vagina's pH is usually about a 4 where some of those soaps range up to a 7. I don't really like anti-bacterial soaps either(only 4 my hands) cause they strip away ALL bacteria and you need your good bacteria.
Remember to just wash the outside(outer & inner lips) don't get soap in the vagina hole, or you'll be sorry... that part you just need to rinse. Hope this helped some.

Ivory like Dove is gentle to the area. For my own personal use I use Physoderm (started doing so by accident years ago when I didn't have one of the soaps like I mentioned above). I found that the Physoderm was especially helpful when I would be on my period so that I wouldn't have a lot of smell of the period.

I think it just depends on your own personal factors. I (and the rest of the females in my household; sisters, mom, roommates) have used a variety of soaps/bodywashes and never had any problems. A friend of mine has chronic yeast infections and her doctor told her to use softer soaps (dove, etc).
I would think that as long as you don't have any allergies or persistant problems you should be able to use whatever soap you'd like.
