im 70% effaced does that mean ill go into labor soon (im only 1cm dialated but does being 70%effaced mean it will be soon? sorry i ask so many questions im a first time mom i really appreciate everyone who answers thnks so much ; ) (im 36 weeks)

All that effacing means is that your cervix is thinning, and the dialating means that its stretching apart. It can really go either way. You could walk around for another 3-4 weeks like that or you could go into labor tomorrow. Generally the more effaced you are the faster you will dialate. If you want it to go into labor quicker stretch, start walking a bit everyday, and try having sex. That will work everytime.
I was 6 centimeters dialated for a week before I went into labor with my daughter. I was 2 centimeters dialated with my son for 6 weeks before they finally had to induce.

R u posting this question from ur hospital room? Only a doctor can tell u this information n its surprising u didn't choose 2 ask him/her or choose 2 place ur trust in strangers. Anyways, at 36 weeks, ur 1 week preterm but it wont matter much if u go into labor now. As u r a primigravida(carrying for the first time), this is how ur cervix prepares 2 go into labor----it effaces first and then dilates though there is no saying for certain how long it will take. As 70% effaced, u may not take long to go into established labor. Let me also tell u, expressing effacement in % is questionable as it can be subjective n vary from one doctor 2 the next ( though over time the difference minimises). A better way 2 express effacement would be the length of the cervix measurable.Best wishes and god bless u!

when you are 100% effaced labor will start.and the real deal doesnt really begin until ur maybe around 3-5 cm dilated. so u still have some time to go. be patient the day will come and it will be wonderful just hang in there i know how it feels. and what ur feeling is what every mother feels especially first timers. i know i felt that way 2 and a half months ago with my first. if ur still unsure and dont really feel like bugging the nurses/doctors at ur visits (i know i didnt want to) than look for some magazines on pregnancy or google search for things that always helped answer some of my questions.

not necessarily it just means your cervix is getting ready i am 21 weeks pregnant with my third child and i am already 40% effaced it just means that when you do go into labor it wont be long if you dial ate fast effacement is when the cervix thins out you dont really have anything to worry about until you start to contract so pack your bags because babies have their own schedules
