I am a 28 yr old male. I used to workout vigorously during my college days. I have stopped that schedule for about 8 yrs now. I have again started working out slowly but I intend to increase on the period and schedule now. I have started slow jogs and light weights. Earlier I used to have enough stamina to continue working out till hours together. Now I am not getting that right start may be for lack of stamina and a proper foundation.

Try an apple or orange...some type of fruit...It will not weigh heavy on the stomach and has the complex carbs and natural sugar you need for a boost. And drink plenty of water. Give yourself time and you will see the stamina and strength you had before.

A meal of whole grain cereal or toast with perhaps a banana ,or dried apricots that are loaded with potassium. You don't want to heavy a meal to workout on.
After the workout , within the first 30-40 min you need to have a meal with protein , a steak, chicken breast, fish, eggs what ever you like plus another serving of grains, beans,or brown rice. Green salad made of the baby field greens will ad allot of nutrition to your meal.
This should help as well as just adding a little more to your workout every day to get back where you were when you quit. With that long of a lay off it will be slow going, but your muscles do remember what its about.
good luck with your training.

I saw this question and just had to jump at the option to share my recently discovered knowledge. In 1992 I discovered the wonders of juice extracting fresh vegetables and fruits. Do you not like eating broccoli, celery, cabbage and all those other vegetables that many people find unpalatable? Well good, cause you don't have to eat them, you CAN drink them! ;) You can make drinks bursting with nutrition and hardly notice the plethora of vegetable goodness contained in them.

Every morning before I go to work, I make a blend of brocooli celery carrot orange banana juice. The possiblities of such juice concoctions are endless with a high quality vegetable and fruit juice extractor (www.livingright.com) and a blender. This concoction that I make in the morning keeps me going for five hours or more. I kid you not. It's like someone has lifted a veil or wiped the smoke film off of a window. I concentrate better, exercise better, work better, have better sex, and best of all, getting the flu and getting colds is a thing of the past, baby! Yeeeeah!

You can get creative with these juices you make fresh at home. Throw a crushed vitamin in the blender with it, or add that protein powder you like, either way, you'll definietely feel and notice the difference.

And please, stop eating junk. The above suggestions are perfect for people that don't like to cook. By following the above suggestions you'll dissuade yourself from junk food and you'll get superior nutrition, probably better nutrition than those of your peers that can cook, cause you'll be eating/ drinking fresh, nutritious, raw, unproccessed food...that was meant to be eaten that way.
