Your question makes it sound as though Brain DePalma made a remake of the 1932 "Scarface".

It isn't a remake, not really. "Scarface" in 1932 was about Al Capone, a Chicago gangster who made his money mostly in illegal alcohol sales during Prohibition, a mostly true story about a real person.
The 1983 "Scarface" is about Tony Montana a Cuban sociopath who gets into heavy cocaine trafficking in Miami in the late 70s and 80s, a fictional character in a fictional movie.

While there are parallels, these two stories are not really related.

Having seen both films, and while I am not a huge fan of Brian DePalma's directorial talents, I liked the 1983 "Scarface" very much, much more than the 1932 movie.

Gotta go with the 1932 version. Slimmer, trimmer, and above all, Howard Hawks was ten times the director Brian DePalma will ever be.

'83, Al Pacino plays it pretty slick
