Life-guarding itself (as in making sure everything's OK in the swimming area) won't get you in shape or make you more attractive but the exercise that they do while off-duty is what really makes them better.
In lifeguard training they do a lot of rigorous exercises such as pull up weights from a deep depth of water, pulling a heavy manikin to shore and saving "fakers", or people who are pretending to drown during practice.
But the attractive look can also come from the extensive time that lifeguards at the beach will spend outside in the sun. Their skin will become tan even after their first shift on the job and it will only get tanner over time. They use heavy SPF-factored sunscreens and they are also very water-proof. They also reapply it on a regular basis since it has been proven that the sun can give you cancer (I know why but for the sake of time I won't type it all out). They also burn a lot of calories during practice and because of the rigorous exercise they'll lose fat which will result in a slimmer figure.

It is the persons responsibility to be in shape, no matter what the job. It takes a fit person to go through the lifeguard training and maintain the level of ability required to react to any situation that may arise.

Unfortunately, no. Private/public pools hire anyone who can complete the training/skills tests. It depends on how selective the people are doing the hiring. Lifeguarding itself is not going to get you in shape. Our swim requirement is 500 yards of rescue strokes, and treading water for 5 minutes. You don't have to be in tremendous shape to accomplish that.

well, if your an outdoor lifeguard you'll get a hot tan. And if the pool does swim lessons that you have to teach then sometimes you get to swim while teaching. But otherwise not really, this one lifeguard at my pool is really fat so no it doesn't give you a hot body.

Beach lifeguards work out a lot, especially when surf is dead or the weather sucks. But, they also eat a bunch of Doritos and drink a lot after work. Balance the two and you'll be hot.

Yes. Life Gaurding takes a lot of distance swimming. It is required that you be able to swim at LEAST 1 mile non stop. Plus, Lifegaurds get 1 hour every day to train and swim. This paid for too. So, yea, you'll keep in shape real good.

As a seasoned guard and guard instructor I can honestly say unless you're on beach patrol no, guarding does not keep you fit or "give you a hot body". Your basic respsonibility is to maintain a safe environment for your patrons and monitor their activity. If guarding gave you "a hot body" a lot more people would be doing it!!!

No, lifeguards are usually in shape before they get hired. If you ever noticed, they don't do much except sit there.
