My 1 yr wedding anniversary is coming up next month. One way we'd like to celebrate is my getting champagne. My husband will drink anything but the problem is that I'm an extremely light and "picky" drinker. When I do drink, I'll drink something like zimas, smirnoffs, tequila rose,or baileys. I hate the taste of beer. I'm afraid of getting any champagne and hating it! How do I get an idea of what I'd like?

Try calling a nice restaurant during a non-peak time (between lunch and dinner). Ask to speak with the Bar Manager or the sommelier (pronounced suh-mal-'yAy). These 2 people normally taste or know the exact flavor profile for every wine on their list. Tell them what you like to drink and they should be able to suggest something off their list that you most likely could get in a liquor store. Make sure you either go there to eat in the near future or at least act like you are.

Check your area to see if any of the bridal salons offer champagne tastings for brides.

Some restaurants also serve Champagne by the glass.

If you are not a hughe fan of straight Champagne you could opt for a Champagne cocktail as well.

Mimosa's Kir Royal to name a few.

Moet Chandon does a nice Rose Champagne as well.

You do not have to blow your budget on Champagne.

Sparkling wine is also an option, way less money and perfect for toasting.

Good luck and Congrats

Have a bottle of fresh squeezed orange juice on hand. If you find the taste of champagne does not suit your taste you can mix the two and end up with a sweeter drink that sounds more like what you enjoy.

You won't want anything too dry, probably. A pink or red sparkling wine might be better for you. You should try some to see what you like. I buy the less expensive Chandon champagne and it is great and very reasonably priced.

You just have to experiment. Try a variety of the less expensive ones and see what you like. Then go from there. Half the fun is the quest. Your husband will be happy to help with the left overs. Husbands are helpful like that :-)
Oh... and Happy Anniversary!

Maybe start out with something fruity-er instead of dry.

Try a "champagne" like Asti red or white. It's basically a sparkling wine, but it's a good way to start.

Check with your local wedding hotspots, the ones that may offer full catering service. They would frequently have bridal fairs, especially this time of the year, where they offer samples of food, wine, and champaign. Last one I went to offered over 30 different labels for sampling, most of them champaigns.

Champagne tends to be dry. With your sweet tooth I would recommend a Riesling or Gewurztraminer, they are nice sweet white wines.

If you happen to be familiar with a local ' above board ' Restaurant, the MaitreD' or Chef would be glad to recommend the proper vintage for your special occasion. God Bless !!
