I have a gorgeous gold dress for an upcoming dance, but it makes me look a lot paler than i'd like. I don't have time to do any UV tanning (i only have a week!) so I was wondering how the mystic tanning works....should i do it two days before the dance? Does it smell? Will it make me look horribly orange? Is it worth it??

Most of the salons that offer Mystic Tan have you watch a short video before hand that tells you exactly how to do it so that you don't end up orange and splotchy. It certainly can make you look too orange if you don't do it right. For instance, the people at the salon may offer you varying degrees of "color" (i.e., light, medium, dark) and may also offer you the option of a bronzer.

Definitely go buy yourself a good exfoliating scrub, take a shower and exfoliate away! Then go do a mystic tan ASAP. Then wait a day or two and see how you like it. If you hate it, don't do another. If you're happy with the results, go one more time before the dance.

The spray DOES have an odor, though it's not horrible. Oh, you can't shower for like, four hours after doing the mystic tan either so that kind of sucks.

Good luck!

Whats wrong with pale?? Dye yer hair black use some Kohle black eye shadow, and liquid black eyeliner.. go for the pale look.. some people like it (i do.. but a gold dress?? YUCKK LOL)
Get a spray on tan they work pretty well.. but go to a reputible esthetician.. UV NOOOO that stuff causes skin cancer.. avoid it like the plague.. booths are no better than sun UV A UV B.. BOTH BAD BAD BAD...

Give me 3 hrs and the right make up and i'll make you look blacker than Damon Wayons if ya want..

If all else fails.. MAKE UP they make body make ups.. and if you cant find em the standard ones will work just as well you are just gonna need more of em to cover more area.. (What do you think all those hollywood starletts do? sheesh)

To the response above mine, do NOT dye your hair black EVER. It looks incredibly fake because black pigment is not found in hair. Go for a dark brown if you want dark hair, and it's referred to as the 'classic' look, not the 'pale look.' Sorry, I get anal sometimes >.<

After you get out of the booth thing they give you a towel to rub it in completely so you don't miss spots... Make sure you get EVERYWHERE because the first time my sister got a mystic tan she missed the undersides of her arms and up by her hairline, and there was a HUGE difference in color. It was really embarassing for her.

i'd be safe and do it ASAP, more than two days before the dance. if you're pretty fair it might make you go orange a la lindsey blohan. i tried it and it was fine for me, but i'm more on the olive side. anyways, it smelled at first, absolutely. the next time you shower you should be fine, though. it's worth it if you follow direction and properly apply the barrier cream to your knuckles, toes, heels, elbows, etc so they don't turn orange.
