LISTEN! I'M A METS FAN, AND EVEN I WANT TO SEE RYAN HOWARD MAKE A FAIR WAGE! $900,000 IS A JOKE! THE PHILLIES JUST GUARANTEED THAT HE'LL BE LEAVING AFTER THIS SEASON!

Howard isn't eligible for arbitration yet since he hasn't been in the league 3 years, so he can't make more than that. By paying him that much the Phillies were showing that they were going to take care of him.

You are a Mets fan, so obviously you don't know what you are talking about. $900,000 for a player who has only a year and a half of major league service is very good. If you have been watching or listening to ESPN today, you would have heard that he tied Albert Pujols for the highest contract signed by a player with that much experience. Players with only a couple of years experience don't sign the huge multi-year contracts that players who are free agents get.

How did the Phillies guarantee that he will be leaving after this season? Players can't become a free agent until they have six full years' of service in the majors. He has to have at another five full seasons before he can be a free agent. He can't have just four years as that would only give him five and a half years. A much larger raise will come after this season, but the huge money may be a couple of years away.

If the Phillies let that happen they are fools. I'm a Yankee fan but lived most of my life in South Jersey so I always found myself rooting for the Phillies. I've watched them for years and quickly learned that the franchise never seems to get into bidding wars with their players and certainly free agency. That's one reason they hardly ever compete for a championship. Now, finally they have put together a team that can actually win and they want to self destruct. They do it every time. That's why the Phillies run in the late '70's thru the early '80's was so incredible. The players sure didn't stay for the money!

Let's face it, the reality is that no one is worth the money that gets thrown around in sports....period! I'd like to make $900,000 dollars a year doing what I do.

First of all the GM is not the idiot it is you. He is a smart guy because he was able to sign Ryan Howard to a year and only 900,000 dollars. Probably, if he has another great year the Phillies will sign him to a longer contract.

Yes I know. As a Mets fan, this actually is great for us! Because I think they would definately be better off just leaving his contract AS IS, this is a bigger slap in the face. So he's gone. Who knows, maybe he'll decide he's a 2B now and join us!

The Phillies didn't have to increase his pay, and probably could only afford another half million or so. But they'll lose more than a half million in ticket sales if the 60 HR slugger leaves.

Yeah it's a pretty bad move as a we see it right now, but if it turns out last year was a fluke, the Philles will look like geniouses. Just know that at the end of the season, if the Phillies are offering the money, Howard will stay in Philly. He is just like every one of us. He doesnt want to have to move to another city, meet new people, find a new house, have to move his kids and wife.

good question guy. as long as you positioned a distinction between him being an above nicely-known participant and an above nicely-known participant that gets $10 million in 2008. What the stats practice is that as quickly as he hits the ball, he's powerful. Yeah, he strikes out lots, and the nicely-known isn't as severe as everybody would incredibly like, yet extra cases than no longer, it incredibly is the way it fairly is with potential hitters. So yeah, he's a sturdy participant, yet i do no longer think of that he's nicely worth all that funds.

He is only going into his third full season. He is not eligible for salary arbritration yet. The players understand the rules; the Phillies will make up for it after this year IF he is as successful as before.

He is not eligible for free agency for a few more years. He is not going anywhere.

He's not in the leagues long enough. You make 900,000 per year right? That's not bad for only being in the league 2 years. Once he is his pricetag will skyrocket and yet another overpaid spoiled professional athlete will be bormn.

He is a second year player. Had a dominant rookie season. Players must prove they are for real and one season does not make a career. Ryan Howard is for real and next year his salary will be too!
