Not a good idea- WD40 could be flammable! There is a product that contains several gases that spray on like liquid Nitrogen (do not breath them in) that you spray on computer chips and keyboards similar to WD40 but safe. Go to a computer store and ask about this. Furthermore, you may want to upgrade to a laser mouse instead- they have come down in price and you do not have to worry about taking them apart to clean the mouse ball.

Don't use WD40. You can clean it with a cotton bud dipped in methylated spirits. If you scraped the dust off the rollers, make sure none of it dropped inside, otherwise when you turn it back upright, the dust will fall back on to the rollers

Yes it would hurt it a lot! Do not do that. The WD40 will make your mouse attract even more skin flakes, dirt, etc. It will also drip on your desk and mouse pad and make it oily. I would toss the mouse and get an optical mouse instead. If you must use that ball mouse, clean it out with denatured alcohol.

If you have a ball mouse then there is probably hair and muck wrapped around the rods the ball turns, use your fingernail to scrape it off. If it's an optical you might have a hair or two in your lense underneath it, use a pen for that.

No WD40. Open it up and there might be some dust buildup. Use canned air to blow it out.

You may need to replace it. Mouses don't last forever.
