I am 5'4 and 185lbs. according to many many charts I am obese. I did stumble apon a chart the other day that recommends weight according to height a frame size. Then I read that the "healthy" waist measurement for women is 32 in.

So although I weigh 185 I have a large frame. My waist is 32 1/2 inches. ( Honestly my ribs show through a little, I wouldn't expect that at my weight. ) I am wider in the hip/butt region (44 in) but pretty equally balanced through the shoulders (but I don't have a large chest).

Now my question is...should I really be that concerned about my "size"? I am a bundle full of contradictions, most people guess I'm closer to a size 9/10 rather than a 14/15. I'm just curious what you think.

Thanks!

It was suggested I included my age: I'm 20. I am really not involved in sports at all, I do exercise several times a week though. I would say I have some strength and definatley some muscle (I'm not bulky or anything).

I would ask your doctor. He knows your history. If you have no problems with blood pressure, diabetes then you might be okay.. Personally.. I think it's a little too much weight. At that size. even being large framed.. For a woman. they might recommend 145bls as the top weight for your frame. I'd drop some weight. Even though you are young, you might gain more with age and then it will be extremely difficult to drop weight.
Good luck!

Well, 5'4" and 185 lbs is a bit heavy for your height. I don't mean aesthetically necessarily. You are pretty to some, and not to others. But for your physical health, and the much-touted BMI (Body Mass Index), you are on the plus side. Should you be concerned? That depends on your age. As you get older, your heart has to work harder the more you weigh. Best advice is to be aware of your weight and try not to eat the kind of foods that would increase your weight, but instead look towards losing a little.

If you ever take up hang gliding, you have to think about wing loading. The more you weigh, the faster your ground speed upon landing. A few bad landings and you will definitely want to be lighter. I just mention this in case you ever have a hankering to fly like a bird. You can, you know. A bit of financial investment and some dedication, and you will not even be thinking about such stuff as 9/10 and 14/15.

Sounds like you are in good shape for the amount of weight you carry. Are you into sports or exercise or fortunate enough that your body just like to make muscle? Maybe you don't consume too much fat and carbs but are still consuming too many calories. Unfortunately, you don't mention your age group. If you are young, I'd advise losing some weight now so that you will stay healthy in your older years. Because then your body will change and be prone to making more fat and less muscle.

i do no longer choose to be impolite or to dissatisfied you...yet my opinion is that i think of you're asking this question given which you decide on an excuse for unlikely on a nutrition plan. i'm additionally 5'4" and easily weigh 110lbs. there is no way that a individual my top may be donning seventy 5 extra pounds and be healthful. Numbers do no longer lie...185 is 185. that's obese. you could desire to attend to it.
