We have a Prefect system at the school I teach at. It is a challenge being a leader of your peers. You need to lead by example. You should never ask your younger peers to do anything that you yourself would not do. In other words it is not meant to be power/ control thing but rather a kind and friendly older student looking out for the younger ones and trying to contribute to the school spirit and ethos.

a great prefect should:
1) always follow the school rules
2) always wear the correct uniform (if required)
3) help and support others without being asked
4) listen to and ask for ideas from other students on how they would like to improve the school
5) be a good student
in other words be a positive role model to your peers at all times good luck
