It depends where "here" is. If you're in the US make sure you get a power transformer to allow for the higher voltage (240V in Oz). If you're in Europe, you only need an adaptor for the plug - which you can get there or in advance for not much cost.
Australian broadband isn't brilliant, compared with most European countries, as there have been major infrastructure issues with the main telco who have most of the hardware - such that it hasn't been upgraded in a while - but WiFi is available in many metropolitan areas of Australia.
If you can wait, and are travelling via somewhere like Singapore - consider getting a laptop there duty free, but make sure you do your research in advance. Perhaps easier would be to buy it in advance, but do it so that you can get your tax back - as you're taking it out of the country.

You can get ADSL, cable, wireless, or even still dial-up from many local ISPs.
Our elec. voltage is 240v and elec. power points are different. Apart from that I think it's pretty similar but ask at a computer shop first before you start to spend money.
