the best word for this is "verklempt," which is a yiddish slang word (used by mike myers on SNL) for the feeling you described...you're so emotional that it is difficult to speak.
other terms are: choked up, overwhelemed, or distraught. i don't think there is a word in english that conveys the feeling.
