First, your son is lucky he is not in jail for having sex with underage girl. Did you teach him about protection?
Of course he has rights to see the baby. In fact, he should move very close to where his girlfriend lives. He should go to court to ask for shared custody. The baby NEEDS her daddy and your son should do the right thing and fight for the right to raise her. (unless he is a drug addict or worse)
GET A LAWYER. Yes, it is expensive, but he should have thought of that before having sex with his girlfriend. The right thing for him is to STEP UP AND BE A DAD even if he needs to get a lawyer and go to court to do so.
You also may have rights to see baby. Ask the lawyer about his.

Seek legal advise from local attorney. Sounds expensive, but any attorney that deals with child custody rights should know the answer. You're just going to get a lot of static on this question here. I would say that within an hour or two (billable) you should have your answer from an attorney.
Now, legal rights or not, she would have to respond to the threat -- or, you will have to actually make a legal move if you're that serious about having your son see his child.
If you want to be able to force visitation rights, then most definitely, there will have to be some type of legal action taken on your son's behalf. But again, seek professional advice, and do it sooner than later.
And by the way, the first answer is most likely wrong (from that other person). Grandparents don't have any rights in most cases -- you need to work from the angle of your son, the biological parent of the child, not as a grandparent.

I'm in Ca, however I suggest you get a family law atterny. IF you want a referance go to the local bar assocation and they should give you some good names. Also ask your friends those are always the bes referals. You don't have many rights but your son does...he will also have to be a man though and most likely pay child support.
Good luck

you need to establish official visitation rights ASAP and in writing
see an attorney and if that is too costly...sit down with the other grandparents and attempt to work out a plan in writing and if that does not work then attempt with the church minister then an attorney...remind the other parties that legal action will be costly for both sides emotionally and financially and it may be best to work out a friendly agreement first

Are they together? If they aren't then you need to seek a lawyer and get some type of visitations rights. If they are you need to talk to your son about making her. That's rude. She has no right to do that. If they aren't together she's just doing that out of spite and that will just hurt the child later on. Good luck. I hope things work out for you.

Considering she is 16 and a minor...your son is 18 an adult...I'd say your son is lucky he's not in jail, if it were my daughter he would be. As grandparents I suggest you back off.

Go to COURT.... I know in California grandparents dont have any rights so you might want to check with your state.
If you cant afford a lawyer, your state provides many ways to help you get one. Have your son fight for his rights.

what exactly are you proud of?
Having an irresponsible son who could have been charged with RAPE had her parents decided to press charges?
Push the issue if you want to and watch your son go to jail.
Guess that your son does not have much in the way of support money for the child.
establishment of paternity means that most likely you will be making the payments or your son goes to jail for flagrant non support.
this is sad
you should be really proud....
